The front of the SmartThermostat is covered glass and boasts a super responsive touchscreen. Coming in at 3.5 inches with a resolution of 480 X 320 pixels, its plenty sharp. You also get a decent speaker at the bottom. There is a reason for the speakers being there – more on this a bit later on in the review. To top it all off, there is a blue LED strip that glows when you use its smart assistant features.

The build felt solid and pretty good. There were no creaks and weird manufacturing deficiencies whatsoever. On to the performance, the bread and butter of this review. Straight off the bat, one defining feature of this remote thermostat from Ecobee is it has an Amazon Echo built right in. So not only your brand-new thermostat is a smart one, but it can also double as a smart speaker. This is where the speakers at the bottom we mentioned come into play. The speaker is louder and sound fuller compared to previous models – this was a nice improvement in our books. ‘

This remote thermostat is pretty jam-packed with clever smart features. First up, its SMART SENSOR lets it tell what rooms are occupied and will adjust the temperature accordingly. The backplate comprises of 12 terminals that can be connected to your ventilation devices, dehumidifiers/humidifiers, ACs and other HVAC systems around your house. It’s responsive and listens to commands quite well.

The only gripe some might have with it is the price. Coming in at $249, this thermostat basically competes head to head with Nest’s offerings. Having said that in some cases Ecobee’s solution to the future of homes and thermostats offers more features compared to its Nest rivals
